ROUND 13 SATURDAY 17th JULY 2010
NERANG BLUE 3 v 2 PACIFIC PINES BLUE @ NRG4
PLAYER OF THE MATCH: Liam W
SPECIAL MENTION: Jess
GOAL SCORERS: Liam W, Jess
FROM THE COACH...
So far, easily our best performance of the season. We were very unlucky not to walk away with the win. After going down 2 nil in the first five minutes, finally, the team woke up and just before half-time, we snagged back a vital goal through Jess who cut in from the sideline and dribbled around multiple defenders before putting the ball in the back of the net.
During the half-time talk, it was evident how eager everyone was to get back on the field and we took the match to them. Our defence was rock-solid at the back, thanks to Tom and we passed like nobody’s business in the midfield. The pressure was mounting on the opposition and it was only a matter of time before they would crack.
Finally, a handball from Nerang just outside the box gave us an opportunity to even it up. Liam W stepped up to the plate and magnificently lifted the ball over the keeper, who stood no chance at stopping it.
At 2 all with ten minutes to go, both sides had several clear-cut opportunities to go in front. Unfortunately, as the clock was winding down, the Nerang backline lobbed a ball into our defensive third and as we struggled to clear it, a deflection put the ball in open space and they went in front with an easy finish.
This week, I was given a trophy to hand to the Player of the Match. The inaugural recipient of this prestigious award was Liam W, due to his dedication in the midfield and his classy goal. Jess gets the Special Mention because of her fantastic goal as well, but mainly for the hard work she puts in to regain possession.
Cameron.
ROUND 12 SATURDAY 26th JUNE 2010
PACIFIC PINES BLUE 0 v. RUNAWAY BAY RED 3 @ PAC3
PLAYER OF THE MATCH: Liam
SPECIAL MENTION: Whole Team
FROM THE COACH…
Today was a brilliant example of how much better we can play when we hold our positions and work as a team. People were marking up across the park and when we were in possession of the ball, passing was finally occurring.
In the first half, we were very unlucky to go into the break a goal down. We defended fantastically and there were several occasions where I thought we were going to go in front.
Liam, who played on the left hand side of the field, fought hard to get the ball whenever we lost it and quickly sent the ball in the right direction; that is why, this week, the Player of the Match award goes to him.
I would like to give a Special Mention to everyone, but especially Liam W and Tom for their equally emphatic performances between the sticks. As I mentioned earlier, the small things paid off today and can be attributed to more discipline at training and a desire to learn.
We will carry on training throughout the school holidays and I have no doubt we will emerge as a force to be reckoned with if trends continue.
Note: We won’t be training on the 5th of July because I will be in Newcastle.
See you all next week,
Cameron.
ROUND 11 SATURDAY 19th JUNE 2010
COOMERA YELLOW 5 v. PACIFIC PINES BLUE 2 @ COOM8
PLAYER OF THE MATCH: Lucy
SPECIAL MENTION: Tom
GOAL SCORERS: Tom (2)
FROM THE COACH…
We got off to a perfect start with a goal under the five minute mark. It was obvious from the sideline the entire team was hungry for the ball. I believe that the most important part of soccer is what you do without the ball; that is, when you are defending or running off the ball. When we had possession, everyone was pushing up. When we lost the ball, everyone was quick to get back. Unfortunately, early in the second half, fatigue set in and the game got away from us. Again, there were a few times, particularly in the second half of the match, where players didn’t appear to know where they were supposed to be. We will work on this at training in the coming week.I would like to take this opportunity to thank Lucy for her efforts in the game and at training. Often, a player’s hard work and determination can fly under the radar, but every single time Lucy puts on her boots, she tries her absolute best and that is all anyone can ever ask from her.
Thank you, Cameron.
ROUND 10 SATURDAY 12th JUNE 2010
RUNAWAY BAY BLUE 10 v 0 PACIFIC PINES BLUE @ RWB3
PLAYER OF THE MATCH: Laughlin
SPECIAL MENTION: Noah, Jarrad and Liam W
FROM THE COACH...
Although we got off to a promising start with some deep kicks into Runaway Bay’s half, unfortunately we couldn’t sneak the ball past their goalie and into the back of the net.
Earlier in the season when we played this team, the score was 9 – 0. Going into the game I was expecting a different result as we have improved in some areas, but obviously, our opposition had as well.
Player of the Match this week goes to Laughlin who played his best match of the season by far. Sometimes he can get lost a little in the middle, but from the sidelines it looked as if he had a point to prove and he went into every challenge with gusto, on multiple occasions coming out on the other side with possession. The highlight for Laughlin was when he cleared the ball from the by-line to save what would have been a certain goal. This week I have three special mentions; Noah, Jarrad and Liam W. These three players showed a great display of resolve to continue fighting even after Runaway Bay had posted an unassailable lead. In the last five minutes I noticed some positive signs which I’ll push further at training. On the topic of training, I’ve sent everyone an important email in regards to how I plan to tackle the remainder of the season. If all of you could read this email and REPLY, that would be excellent. On our Facebook page, I’ve summarised it in a few short points if you can’t reach your inbox. I’ll see you all on Thursday at 5pm,
Cameron.
ROUND 6 SATURDAY 15th MAY 2010
PACIFIC PINES BLUE 1 v 3 SOUTHPORT GREEN @ PAC3
PLAYER OF THE MATCH: Jarrad
SPECIAL MENTION: Noah
GOAL SCORERS: Liam W
FROM THE COACH...
In the first ten minutes I was immensely proud of what I saw from all of you. Everything we had worked on at training such as holding positions, clearing the ball from defence and attacking the goal came together. An unlucky mistake led to a goal but thanks to a brilliant run and calculated finish from Liam W, we clawed our way back into the match.
That isn’t to say I was disappointed for the remainder of the game. There are just a few things we need to work on, such as goal kicks. It is essential to kick the ball wide, because the majority of opposing teams will convene in the centre of the park.
Noah receives the highly acclaimed Special Mention this week due to an unblemished performance in the backline. Player of the Match goes to Jarrad. When Southport Green looked to plunge in the final dagger, Jarrad pulled off a multitude of fine saves to keep the game competitive.

I’ve uploaded over thirty new photos, including the group one and there are some classics, especially of Jess and co. falling over.
See you all on Monday,
Cameron.
ROUND 5 SATURDAY 8th MAY 2010
CANUNGRA RED 9 v 2 PACIFIC PINES BLUE @ CANUNGRA
PLAYER OF THE MATCH: Thomas
SPECIAL MENTION: Jess
GOAL SCORERS: Thomas and Jarrad
FROM THE COACH…
With some great saves while he was goalkeeping and inspiring runs from defence when he was positioned in the backline, it was hard to look past Thomas for the Player of the Match this week.
Although we succumbed to a heavy defeat, in the first fifteen minutes we were very solid in the middle and this led to the creation of multiple chances that, on another day, might have steered us to victory.
The Special Mention this week goes to Jess. Jess always listens to what I have to say and manages to react accordingly when my advice is incorrect. She is blossoming into a great defender who never shies away from a challenge.
On the whole, I believe as a team we are improving. It’s always difficult to slip back into the groove when you haven’t been able to train for almost two weeks.
